Off the Beaten Track
Quiet countryside, views to the sea and links to the past.
Detail about the route
A gem of a walk, which is not widely used so it's lovely and peaceful. SUMMARY This route starts as a level walk along a ridge, providing superb views across the Axe Valley and its tributaries. We then visit an iron-age hillfort that offers magnificent views all the way to the sea. Dropping down to the valley below to pass through farmland then walk back along hedge bordered quiet country lanes to the start. > DURATION: 2 hours* > DISTANCE: 2.6 miles > TOTAL CLIMB: 144 m (along the route) * All route timings are based upon plotaroute.com data and will vary according to the time the group chooses to spend enjoying the views and soaking up the character of the area. TERRAIN A gentle start to the walk with a moderate descent followed by a gentle climb, with a steep bit to the end. This steeper bit is on a minor country lane, which generally makes uphill a little easier. FACILITIES There are no toilets on this route. WHAT DO I NEED • Something to eat and drink, there are no shops on this route. • Shoes suitable for walking on uneven ground and weather conditions. (walking boots in wet weather but walking shoes or shoes with a good tread in drier times). • A waterproof jacket is essential in the British climate . • If rain is forecast, waterproof trousers are a good idea, but hopefully they will not be needed. • A warm layer in case its not as warm, or perhaps windier, than you expect. • Sun protection: sun cream, sunglasses and a sun hat.
